FACILITIES

During the Antarctic season (October through February) ANI has offices in Punta Arenas, Chile.

These offices form the Antarctic operations headquarters. During the Antarctic field season from October to mid February, ANI maintains a tented base camp at Patriot Hills, Ellsworth Mountains at 80 S, 81 W, about 1117km (600nm) from the South Pole. ANI also maintains a small base camp at Vinson Massif.

The camp can accommodate up to 60 persons and is strategically situated alongside a natural "blue ice" runway where the heavy cargo/passenger aircraft used by ANI can land.

The flight time from Punta Arenas to Patriot Hills is approximately 4.5 hours.

The camp at Patriot Hills comes well equipped for your stay in Antarctica. Although you may feel like you are a million miles away from the civilization you know so well, ANI have virtually all means possible for staying in contact with the outside world, right in the comfort of base camp. The use of HF and VHF radios is common, as is communications with expeditions, overseas offices and people in the field via satellite telephone. There is also a fax and e-mail service to ensure that information and correspondence can be sent and received in the quickest way possible. Lastly, of a more 'traditional' means of communication, a postal service runs in accordance with the scheduled flights, bringing in and taking out letters, cards and sometimes even parcels.
