Expedition Cruising aboard
The Explorer
2003
"If we are always arriving
and departing, it is also true that we are eternally
anchored. One's destination is never a place but rather
a new way of looking at things"
Henry Miller

Expedition cruising demands a delicate
balance of ship, destination, crew and passenger.
|
A&K's intrepid 'Explorer' expertly and uniquely
melds these components to create extraordinary journeys
for the inquisitive traveler.
In 2003, the Explorer's experienced captains take the
ship to the far reaches of South America and Antarctica,
the Caribbean and the European North Atlantic to discover
untrodden shores, to meet native peoples, to encounter
indigenous wildlife and to experience untold adventures.
| This conservation-friendly "little
red ship" follows the routes of the ancient
mariners to faraway islands and storied villages.
|
|
 |
She visits remote coasts populated by hundreds of thousands
of seabirds; and cruises the entire navigable length
of the mighty Amazon River, often bringing needed supplies
to isolated local villages.
|
|
'Explorer' ventures to rugged Caribbean islands known
more for their wildlife and rainforests than their duty
free shopping, transits the Panama Canal, and she makes
history by delving into the White Sea to long-forbidden
Russian outposts.
'Explorer' carries a fleet of versatile Zodiac rafts,
capable of penetrating tiny Amazonian tributaries or
landing on deserted beaches, cruising narrow Chilean
fjords or delivering passengers to piers that do not
allow large tourist vessels.
 |
|
To enhance your experience both on
board and ashore, the 98-passenger 'Explorer' employs
a team of renowned naturalists and experienced seamen. |
Ship amenities include cozy, comfortable cabins serviced
by a meticulous staff; gourmet meals presented by attentive
waiters (yum, yum);
a welcoming lounge where you may recount the day's activities
(
you won't believe what
we saw
.); and a lecture hall where you
will be fascinated and intrigued by the knowledge of
the first-rate lecturers and guides.
